An Alcoholic Goes To Alcohol Rehabilitation And Receives Alcohol Detoxification And Rehab For His Alcohol Dependency
Donald used to boast to his buddies how he could keep a full-time job and get intoxicated virtually every night. Regrettably, after engaging in this destructive lifestyle for nearly two years, he started to experience numerous alcohol related problems.
As an example, he had a real difficult time getting up for work because he felt so exhausted when he got up. Furthermore, just about every morning Donald experienced a painful hangover. Obviously, the combination of his hangovers and his lack of energy did not make it easy for him to get up and feel motivated to go to work. To make things more difficult, approximately a week ago he got his third drunk driving arrest in the past eight weeks.
To compound things further, at work his last two work appraisals were less than satisfactory. And finally, his two-year relationship with his girlfriend had gotten worse due to his angry outbursts, financial difficulties, depression, and his lack of patience.
Though Donald was only twenty seven years old, he simply started to look like he was in his early forties. Unfortunately, this is what excessive and hazardous drinking can do to a person. And in all honesty he grasped the fact that he was suffering from the adverse consequences of alcohol abuse or alcoholism and that he was too young to give up his life to abusive and unhealthy drinking. So at first he tried to drink in moderation. Unfortunately, he soon found out that he lost his self control after consuming his first drink. Since this was an incident that was repeated every single time he drank, this obviously concerned him a great deal. In fact, he started to wonder if he was displaying some of the stages of alcoholism.
After talking about his alcohol drinking problems and his careless drinking with his girlfriend, he eventually made up his mind to schedule an appointment to see his healthcare professional. When Donald saw his healthcare professional, he sincerely stated that he has been drinking in an abusive manner, that he may be exhibiting behavior characteristic of the various alcoholism stages, and that he wants to quit drinking. He said that drinking in moderation does not work for him and consequently, he wants to learn how he can develop an alcohol-free lifestyle.
Donald also told his doctor about his depression and how this mental health issue was adversely influencing his relationship with his girlfriend. His family doctor referred Donald to Doctor Fullmer, a drug and alcohol addiction specialist, who convinced Donald to enter into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic as an in-patient for alcohol detox and alcohol rehab. Fortunately, Donald would also be able to get medical treatment for his depression at this facility.
After four months of intensive rehab, Donald left the in-patient treatment clinic and continued his recovery via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and via outpatient therapy. Encouraged to change his life in a healthier manner, Donald joined a gym and started working out three or four times per week. Within four months Donald was a new man. He was not depressed anymore, he was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, and most important of all, he maintained his sobriety for many months. He also became more patient, he did not resort to angry outbursts, and he became a more caring individual in his relationship with his girlfriend. Stated simply, getting and staying sober was the best decision Donald had ever made.
